Membership Q & A's

I.   How do I become a WAGO member?

To become a Regular or Associate member of WAGO, a membership application must be completed and accompanied by two letters of recommendation from two voting members of the Association. These letters should attest to the training and interest of the prospective member. Additionally, the prospective member must meet the qualifications described in the appropriate membership description (see membership descriptions below). All three items (application & two letters of recommendation) must be received by the WAGO National Office prior to the Annual Meeting. The Secretary-Treasurer of the Association will then present a curriculum vitae of the nominee to the Executive Committee at the Annual Meeting, who will decide on the eligibility of the nominee and then distribute the name and summary of credentials of the new member to the voting Members. Newly elected members shall be notified by letter of their admittance of membership and will receive a membership certificate.

Additional Criteria for Regular and Associate Membership:

Regular Member - the individual must have been trained or currently reside West of the Mississippi River, and have formally participated in the scientific program at a WAGO meeting prior to the membership election.  Click here for the application form.

 

Associate Member - the individual must reside West of the Mississippi River, have attended one WAGO meeting, and have formally participated in the scientific program at a meeting for WAGO prior to the membership election. Click here for the application form.

 

Becoming an Honorary or Emeritus Member:
Upon retirement from active practice, or at age 65, a Regular Member may elect to become an Emeritus Member.  Election to Emeritus membership shall be automatic upon submission of a letter by the Regular Member to the Executive Committee.  Emeritus Members shall have no voting rights, nor may they be nominated for elective office.

 

II.   What are the different types of WAGO Memberships?

Regular Members are licensed physicians interested in gynecologic oncology and Board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology or its equivalent, the American Board of Radiology, the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of General Surgery, or the American Board of Pathology, and must be active members of a gynecological oncology service. All Regular Members have the right to vote and to hold office.

Associate Members are those individuals whose primary career activities are gynecologic oncology. Associate members must have previously presented at a WAGO meeting and must have also attended one meeting of the Association. Associate members cannot exceed 5-10% of the total membership of the Association. Associate Members are entitled to vote and hold office.

Honorary Members have demonstrated a sustained interest in gynecological oncology and typically have presented at a WAGO meeting before becoming an Honorary Member. Nomination for election to Honorary Membership may be made verbally or in writing by a Regular Member of the Association and seconded by another Regular Member. Election shall be by a majority vote of the Regular Members of the Association. Honorary Members shall have no voting rights, nor may they be nominated for elective office and have no attendance of dues requirements.

Emeritus Members at age 65, or upon retirement from active practice, a Regular Member may elect to become an Emeritus Member. Election to Emeritus membership shall be automatic upon submission of a letter by the Regular Member to the Executive Committee. Emeritus Members shall have no voting rights, nor may they nominated for elective office.
